Engineers Australia and WestConnex deliver ‘Experience It’ – a one-day student conference designed to provide NSW female high school students the opportunity to experience engineering and encourage STEM related subjects in their final years of study. ‘Discover Engineering’ is full day of activities for high school students covering many areas of Engineering, and incorporating the Engineering Design Process. See here for more information on the workshops.
The NSW Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG) and WestConnex to deliver annual STEAM Youth Development Camps for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. The camps bring together students from different schools and provide opportunities for students to connect while learning about STEAM subjects and their links to Aboriginal culture.
See here for more information on the workshops.
The Engineering Link Group and WestConnex deliver workshops to high school students, demonstrating that STEM subjects are rewarding, fun, relevant and lead to fulfilling careers in engineering and science. There are also hands-on programs for educators to provide ideas for teaching STEM subjects, with real engineers and scientists. See here for more information.
If you require any further information on being involved with these workshops, please email WCXCommunityConnections@transurban.com.
WestConnex critical part of a broader plan to get Sydney, and Australia, moving again. WestConnex is easing congestion, creating tens of thousands of jobs, and connecting communities and is being delivered in four major stages:
The New M4 Tunnels opened to motorists in July 2019. WestConnex M4 (the New M4 Tunnels and the Widened M4), includes 5.5km tunnels and around 7.5km of surface roads.
The WestConnex M8 opened to motorists in July 2020 is the second major underground stage of the WestConnex motorway network and includes 9km twin tunnels from Kingsgrove to St Peters, effectively doubling the capacity of the M5 East.
The M4-M5 Link Tunnels, opening in 2023 will be 7.5km tunnels linking the New M4 at Haberfield with the M8 at St Peters, with connections to the Anzac and Iron Cove bridges via the Rozelle Interchange.
The final stage of WestConnex, the Rozelle Interchange, opening in 2023, is being delivered by the NSW Government and will connect the M4-M5 Link to the Anzac and Iron Cove bridges, and the future Western Harbour Tunnel and Beaches Link.

All about Roadheaders
The WestConnex tunnels were built using a unique piece of machinery called a ‘roadheader’. Watch the video and learn all about them. You can also download factsheets on tunnels and how they were built here.
What is WestConnex?
WestConnex is Australia’s largest road infrastructure project and is being delivered in stages. When complete, it will be a 33km, traffic free network, linking the south west and west of Sydney with the CBD and airport.
The What and Why of PPE
Safety first! Personal Protective Equipment is the only uniform on a construction site. Anna and Matt are two WestConnex engineers that talk about safety when going on site.
Boomerangs to Drones
Throwing a Boomerang is closely linked to modern day flight, a scientific insight into aerodynamics. This online tutorial is from the NSW Aboriginal Education Consultative Group, a non-for-profit organisation focusing on education and training that represents the Aboriginal community viewpoint.
Meet Anna, our engineer!
Why is engineering such a great job? How do you become one? Anna tells us what it’s like being an engineer on the WestConnex M8.
